What is Dry Needling?
Dry needling is a skilled intervention that uses a thin filiform needle to penetrate the skin and stimulate underlying myofascial trigger points, muscular, and connective tissues for the management of neuromusculoskeletal pain and movement impairments.

How is Dry Needling Different from Acupuncture?
While both use similar needles, dry needling is based on Western anatomical and neurophysiological principles. It targets specific trigger points to cause structural changes in the tissues in order to promote healing, whereas acupuncture is based on Traditional Chinese Medicine focusing on energy flow or Meridians.
Frequently Asked Questions
What should I expect at an appointment?
During your session, your physical therapist will perform an assessment to identify trigger points. A sterile needle is then inserted. You may feel a slight prick and a local twitch response, which is a sign the muscle is responding and releasing tension.
Who should/shouldn't have dry needling?
Dry needling is suitable for most patients suffering from chronic pain or tension. However, it may not be recommended for those with needle phobias, certain bleeding disorders, or compromised immune systems. Our therapists will determine if it is the right path for you.
